How to find a job in machine learning as a beginner?

Actually, given: a programmer with good experience in Erlang / Elixir, loaded systems, stream processing, etc.
I am taking a course on data analysis and machine learning from the Higher School of Economics (full-time). There is an extremely strong desire to apply the acquired knowledge in work, but data science / ML everywhere needs people with serious experience in commercial development on the topic.
Googling shows that there are very few options using Erlang / Elixir in this area (in Russia, there is nothing at all). It turns out that you need to completely retrain in python / c ++ in order to do ML? Or am I missing something?

Yes, Erlang is not about machine learning. Probably, the HSE even explained to you why. So if you want work, go "behind the market", i.e. learn what is required along with ML and Big Data.
PS And how did you manage to start entering IT with Erlang/Elixir? How would a very non-trivial gate.
