How to enter the game development industry the right way?

Please tell me, advise how to do it right so as not to make mistakes at the initial stage of game development. I am a C / C ++ programmer, a fairly good mathematical background. I want to create games. How to do it right? Can you just email. mail to development studios or you definitely need to prepare some kind of resume or something else. tell me how to take the first step.

Of course, you can just write to the studio, but, in my opinion, by writing a letter like: I want to work for you! What do you need? from luckygambler(dog)superpuperfreemail.ru, and even forgetting to introduce myself (I have experience in receiving such letters), the chances are close to zero. You MUST need a resume, it should include: last name, first name, age, education, place of residence, readiness for relocation, family (in order to assess the possibility of relocation if you work in another city/country), readiness for remote work, desired position, experience work, knowledge and skills. Some achievements or a portfolio can act as experience if there is no experience in this area. If you insert links, check that they are working.

Learn to use the search, there have been such questions more than once, nothing has changed since then.

As an option, try to make a couple of games on android java. Put it on the play market. Yes, there will be no profit, but you will have at least some experience and a meager understanding of how difficult it is. Take a look and see if you enjoy doing it. And if you still like it, you will have two ways, one is the one that I suggested - continue to cut games for android and raise skills, go to the studios that do this. Or as suggested by Ivan above. But he didn't tell you everything) The game industry is very large, I don't know a larger area. Here you have designers, and programmers from different areas, sound people, 3D animations, and who the hell knows what else. Seriously. This is not for you to cut sites. Get ready for the fact that if you get through, you will very often do extra work, but on the whole you will do very little, scanty little. If you take this path, you will have to choose your specialization even in this. There is no such thing as "I will make games." The concept is so broad that no one knows how to "make games". I'm talking about AAA level projects. We all once raved about it) Half for sure and this is a good dream. But it will be really difficult to break through, be prepared. If it's just for the money, it's much easier to rivet wordpress sites for 100 a month. But if not, then keep it up. Who knows, maybe in 3-5 years you will be wizzard dungeon building algorithms for the new Diablo sawing. If it's just for the money, it's much easier to rivet wordpress sites for 100 a month. try to just make the game yourself, it makes sense to write in the studio without any minimum experience.

A resume is a must. Also create a profile on LinkedIn. Sometimes through Linked in you can find very interesting vacancies, including abroad. Somewhere on Habré there was an article about how a person from Novosibirsk (sys. admin dev ops) invited google to Switzerland via LinkedIn (if I don’t confuse anything). And here is the article .
You can immediately try to contact these companies:
Gaijin(war thunder) www.gaijinent.com/ru/jobs
Zeptolab zeptoteam.ru/job
Nival ru.nival.com/career/vacancies
Wargaming wargaming.com/ru/careers
To be honest, just working as a C++ or Java programmer in some financial area, you can earn more and suffer less :) But it's not for me to choose how you live.

In no case should any applicant be afraid of mistakes, because the so-called "mistakes" (unsuccessful interviews) are just your inconsistencies with the ideology of a particular employer, it is different and contradictory for everyone, you need to "scientifically" choose one thing, of course you can become a generalist and learn to trust anyone, but such a result will require especially many "mistakes".
Of course, a summary, it has more technical topics, although this approach is not quite universal, and of course a portfolio is desirable, for example, using the Android NDK (C ++) or some kind of "engine", write a game and publish it on Google Play.

I will join some opinions: try to write games (at least simple ones). Portfolio and experience are very important.
