How to enable graphic modes on single boarders?

Is there any way to run graphics mode like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 on a single board without running X? Does the Graph module from FPC work there, which is an analogue of the same module in Borland Pascal?
Let's say this is necessary in order to write your own ZX Spectrum emulator - running third-party applications is not needed.
