How to enable encryption between ODBC and MSSQL?

Good day. I was looking for information on encrypting the connection to the MSSQL server, I found that this can be enabled in the server. But - the client will connect to the server using ODBC. Question - how to make the connection between them encrypted?
Do not offer VPN, this option will be used as a backup for now. I would like to do it with minimal effort.

A VPN is actually the simplest possible solution.
If the client or the server itself does not know how / cannot make secure connections, then
MSSQL <=> encrypting proxy <=> insecure environment <=> decrypting proxy <=> client
^^
In fact, this is the same VPN, only from shit and sticks .
