How to do samba server name conversion?
I just don't know how to formulate my question for Google... There is a samba server and I can access it via \\ip, but how can I configure everything so that I can access it as \\public, etc. How to do it? DNS server is there if anything

In general, nmbd (MS netbios) will be responsible for this. In the config:
workgroup = Workgroup
server string = SambaFS (File server)
netbios name = SambaFS
Accordingly, the workgroup description and name. Works only within the same subnet, as it uses broadcast requests. When accessing from a different subnet, use the DNS name
