How to delete a folder in git?

git rm -r edeldorf gives an error : fatal: pathspec 'edeldorf' did not match any files.
When deleting locally, it says that I do not have admin rights (I'm the only user), I tried to change the owner of the folder, but all in vain. But I would also like to solve the problem at the git level, and not locally.
