How to deal with a hell of a client who asks for a refund on PayPal?

I've been designing interfaces for over 10 years, but this is the first time I've come across such a situation.
The client is an African-American from the USA.
2 months ago I received an advance payment from a US customer, from US PayPal to my Thai PayPal.
First, we agreed that I would make a design for his site and layout with hover animation.
I gave him the design of the main page, to which he says it looks great, will send edits soon and disappears for a few days. Then he sends the edits, according to which I completely made a new design of the main one from scratch. Then again a lot of edits, and then the approval of the main one.
Then I do the design of the inner page, again a lot of edits that I made. After that, the client disappeared altogether for 10 days, not responding to my messages.
After that, it is announced on the weekend and requires all pages to be completed by Monday and begins to require animation for hover at the design stage.
I was away at the weekend and saw the letter only on Monday.
I send him additional questions with explanations that the hover animation will be after layout, after which he again disappears for several days and is announced the next weekend with a requirement to complete the work within 2-3 days, or that I make a full refund. At the same time, he says that he does not need layout from me, only design.
To which he receives a reasonable answer that there will be no return. At the same time, I do not refuse to design the rest of the pages, but at a convenient time for myself, and not at the deadlines that he sets after repeated disappearances.
To which he replies that he no longer needs the design and wants to return all the money.
I answer him, I worked for you for about a month, while not taking on other projects, and now you want me to return your money? What does he say, yes.
The question is, what can he do in this situation?
If he opens a dispute with PayPal, what is the probability that PayPal will force me to return, given that the truth is on my side in my opinion, besides, I do not refuse to work, unlike the customer, who constantly disappears and constantly changes working conditions .
PS. This customer is a lawyer from the United States, I designed a social network site for lawyers just for him.

PayPal has a "loophole" that allows you to unilaterally return the money.
From acquaintances I have already heard more than one story that they (or their acquaintances) fell for this.
PS
I would recommend working through some exchange that would act as a guarantor.
For example - https://upwork.com
