How to customize templates?

I need templates like in The Bat. I'm trying to set up in Thunderbird so that in the template you can set the current date, subject and recipients at least (well, the message itself, of course). Standard templates do not know how to insert a date. In addition, I still did not understand how to open them to edit and send. I was looking for extensions, but the only one I found was SmartTemplate4. It seems to be nothing, but the infection does not know how to add recipients and a subject. There are variables there, but for example when you click on %subject% it says "Variable %subject% cannot be used for NEW messages!". What kind of stupidity I do not understand. What the hell is she for?
PS Maybe there is some other convenient client for windows? It is necessary that, firstly, it was convenient, secondly, free, and thirdly, with mandatory support for templates. But I don't like The Bat. Very HS interface IMHO.

@lilianz

I use Thunderbird from firefox developers.
But, honestly, I tried a lot of things and came to the conclusion that everything is purely individual and almost everyone has the same capabilities and an equally inconvenient interface. So if problems arise, it is better to use the one with the largest community, so that you can google the answer to your problem.
