How to create your own protocol so that it is displayed as a link in all OS applications?

Created a protocol as in this article.
Everything works fine in the browser, myprot://something is displayed as a link because it is wrapped in the appropriate tag.
But what about other programs? MS Word http://somethingautomatically recognizes and displays as a link, and myprot://something as plain text. Is this function built into programs or can it be achieved using OS tools?

As always, I was quick to ask. The application that interests me, as I understand it, does it itself
