How to create a task for website design for a freelancer?
I want to order a freelance website design.
I consider design development in Photoshop to be the "Stone Age", this is my personal opinion.
The closest thing to my understanding of "design" is Sketch for Mac.
Let me try to explain:
In my humble opinion, the conventional fixed points for the CSS media screen property cannot adequately capture the designer's flight of fancy. I believe that these values should be set individually for each design, because rearranging elements on the page due to a decrease in the width of the browser window will also be individual for a unique design.
Based on this, if we follow the generally accepted practice (several separate screens for, for example, mobile, tablet, desktop), we get a very "narrow" interpretation of the design, because the number of view width options is infinite, what can happen there in a non-standard situation remains "for frame" when ordering a design.
Therefore, with a smooth change in the width of the browser window, a good design will go through not 2-3 iterations, but much more, which can be proportional to the number of elements on the page. Example - just to adequately display lines of text with phones (to group them, disappear, change alignment, etc.), you may need about 10 different "breakpoints" CSS media screen.
If the design is initially developed for three key types, it loses its individuality and power!
Therefore, I have always disagreed with the concept of "Mobile First", of course it is better than vice versa, but the error is in the very essence of the design approach.
In my opinion, the design should initially be designed for a correct, and, most importantly, visually and usably attractive display at absolutely any resolution and absolutely any Scale - then this degenerates the concept of "Mobile First", because. makes absolutely no difference - the design will adapt to any screen width.
I will add here that with the advent of CSS Grid, the "crutches" with Bootstrap are meaningless and only make the source code heavier.
On the upside, I want to make the site as lightweight as possible, which means using SVG absolutely anywhere the image doesn't get complex enough to use JPG rationally.
How to accept a design from a freelancer with this approach? Typesetting is not a problem for me, but I need not just a picture, but in fact a set of elements and rules for their location. I can’t use Sketch myself, but it seems there is an export to CSS.
And how can a designer demonstrate his work to me in dynamics, and not just a set of pictures (this is the work of an artist)? Maybe there are specialized design tools where you can "pull" the size of the window yourself?
