How to create a new Asp.net project?

Started learning ASP.NET from Freeman's book "ASP.NET CORE MVC" and ITVDN video tutorials "ASP.NET Core".
The following question arose: how is the creation of a project through File-Create-Project-ASP.NET Core-ASP.NET CORE Web Application different from File-Create-Web Site-Empty ASP.NET Web Site. Which of these do I need to create to practice the examples in the above books? How are these two projects different?
