How to count a large number of paper sheets?

At work, it often becomes necessary to count a specific number of sheets, sometimes this value reaches a thousand (at a time). I thought about using scales, but I did not find suitable electronic scales for sale, and there is a problem with the error in small quantities (50 or 100) and their subsequent verification and calibration. I googled some machine, found only huge industrial-scale machines. So far, I run a hundred sheets through the printer and then measure the same stacks by eye.
In addition to the standard A4, there are A4 halves and A3 folded in half. So, I want to make the process as automated, accurate and versatile as possible. Is it possible without an industrial machine?
UPD:
1. The question is more about a finished device than a collective farm with printers.
2. Industrial machines - expensive and not on the scale.
3. I can’t agree with the printing house, many variables change before the papers get to me.
4. Weight measurements require high precision scales, which are quite capricious and not the cheapest tool.
5. Measurements with a micrometer disagreed - someone talks about a small error, someone about a big one.
6. A couple of manual options look more interesting than industrial machines: How to count a large number of paper sheets?

I have a mini print shop. when laying out the quantity, there is such a nuance - each paper has its own thickness, so the micrometer disappears in the case of "stupidly measuring and getting the quantity." You will first have to spit out 20 pieces, calculate the thickness, and then you can + - count the volume in pieces.
I make it easier, stupidly count 20-50 pieces, put it on a flat table, press a smaller pack and a larger pack nearby, with a slight movement of my hand I shift the large pack to a small one - voila - 2 packs of 50, that is 100. We repeat the required number of times. The error is 0-3 sheets per hundred, which is about the same as a printer (they often pull 2 pieces each). When packing forms, this should not be a problem at all, any printing house prints + 50-200 sheets from the circulation (an attachment, which is usually like a free bonus), and no one in their right mind will recalculate packaged packs of unnumbered forms.

It’s easier to count thousands in batches .. And it would be nice to understand why you need to count it manually, perhaps you chose the wrong point for optimizing work. From what you said now, the smartest solution would be to just run the packs through a printer or similar device.

Without an industrial machine - it means something made to order, there will be a lot of mechanics - and it will turn out to be expensive. A laser printer consumes toner for each broach, so passing a white sheet through it is also not profitable. Is it possible to take an inkjet with dead cartridges - an old one that does not check.
If an error of 3..4 sheets is not important, then you can take a caliper (micrometer for parts) and measure the thickness.
