How to correctly paste text from an external buffer into the vi editor?

I am new to Linux. After installing Debian 9, I started setting up trying to figure out the details of the settings, so for additional software you need to add text to sourses.list, opened it through vi, but I still didn’t understand how to paste the lines copied from the browser ... Tell me who knows ... That is why it is not mentioned anywhere that the editor has its own separate clipboard??!!

@helison

Install vim.
Open the file:
In edit mode (i button), put the cursor where you want to paste the text copied to the buffer and shift + insert (or the middle mouse wheel, but this is if the primary and secondary buffers are the same, it depends on your environment). Press ESC (this is an exit from edit mode).
In general, read tutorials on vim, and about Primary and Secondary buffers in Linux.
