How to connect to VPN on Windows Server 2012 R2 VPS?

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 VPS, I install an application for the desktop of one of the VPN providers, as soon as the VPN connection occurs, the VPS immediately drops with the error:

The connection to the remote PC was lost. This might be because of a network connection problem. If this keeps happening, contact your network administrator for assistance.
Error code: 0x904

The reason I understand is that as soon as the VPN connects, a new IP of this VPN is set and the original IP conflicts.
It is also worth adding that there is another VPS with Windows server 2008 R2 where the same VPN is installed and there are no conflicts.

VPN support service suggested this, are there any simpler solutions?

Thank you for contacting us, please get diff access method like console or teamviewer, and usethat method to access the VPS, and on Torguard app note down the protocol and port/auth set just now and connect vpn then on remote IP field click the pin icon and note down the IP shown, next head to client area > My services, click Management Actions beside Anonymous VPN and choose Request port forward fill in the details using the ones you noted down and add the port you want to open, for remote windows rdp will be tcp 3389, submit request and once active please reconnect on TorGuard app and check if port is open on that remote IP, and do RDP using the VPN IP.

What does openvpn have to do with it?
You misunderstand the reason - VPN creates a new virtual network adapter, its IP does not conflict with anything (although theoretically it can, but this is a rather rare case).
Your situation is similar to the most common mistake where the VPN connection overwrites the "default gateway" on the client. This behavior can usually be disabled. How exactly depends on the version of VPN used.
