How to connect the Wi-Fi antenna correctly if the native one came off entirely with a socket?

A friend has a Wi-Fi ADSL Router. I noticed that the wi-fi signal does not catch at all, literally a couple of meters near it, I climbed to see if the antenna was torn off right with the socket and the piece of cable that remained acted as the antenna.
I looked for an unnecessary antenna (more precisely, I carefully dropped it out of another router) and tried to twist the wires for example, but I hardly noticed any effect, why?
My guesses:
- you need to solder, for a more reliable contact (and there is no soldering iron at hand)
- the length of the cable has changed (it has become several centimeters longer and loses strength because of this)
- something else ...
I’ll make a reservation right away, in terms of electronics I am a teapot, I do everything on the basis of trial and error and googling ...

If a soldering iron comes along, you can try desoldering the remaining piece from the board and making it all one wire instead of twisting. Maybe it's the screen.
