How to connect cables to the monitor and video card?

There is 1 monitor. It only has HDMI inputs. There are 2 monitors. It only has VGA and DVI. The graphics card only has HDMI and Displayport. Will I be able to connect monitor 1 via HDMI to Displayport cable (HDMI to monitor and Displayport to graphics card) and monitor 2 via HDMI to DVI (DVI to monitor and HDMI to graphics card)? I just heard that sometimes these cables only work in one direction.
