How to configure preview in MS Outlook 2007 for files with arbitrary extensions?

Dear colleagues!

There is an Informatica PowerCenter server that sends me emails with attached logs of failed sessions. I do not fully control the naming of the logs, because Informatica adds service information to the template I specified - process id, launch date, as a result, the .log extension I proposed turns out to be deep in the middle of the name. The question is - how can I configure Outlook so that it either opens these logs in any notepad without additional questions, or (ideally) shows me the text of the log in Preview?

I thought the same as you.
Create the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\Shell\Open\Command key and set the default command to notepad.

I’m already thinking about such a solution - to write a script that will write a bunch of keys to the registry that associate the file extension a day ahead and will delete obsolete keys, for example, two days ago (I’m unlikely to look at earlier logs often). But here a new question already arises, how will the registry react to the fact that it will daily produce (60 seconds * 60 minutes * 24 hours * 3 days = 259,200) almost 300,000 entries / deletions? Clarified the extension format, it's 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS'.
