How to clone a hard drive to another one?

There is a file server in the office on windows 10, the ntfs file system, only files on the hard drive (windows is installed on another drive). You need to change the hard drive by cloning it to another hard drive. What is the best way to do this?

Clonezilla is free and copies perfectly.

You have a wide range of options:

  • you can use special solutions with proprietary format (Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost, ...);
  • or a hexadecimal editor (CI Hex Viewer, WinHex, ...), with which you can create an uncompressed sector-by-sector copy of the disk. Here it would be preferable that the disk be of the same volume, and better than the model;
  • if there are only files on the disk (without any bindings - OS loading, installed programs, ...), then, judging by the description, nothing should prevent them from simply copying them.

If you only need to transfer files and it is possible to connect both disks at once, then I would do the usual copying:
robocopy "D:\Files" "E:\Files" /copyall /e /v /FP /ETA /TEE /UNILOG+:"E: \copylog.txt"

The best Acronis option, but it costs money. If you need a free option, but it works on its own in full automatic mode, in a full 30-day test version, you can also use Drive SnapShot www.drivesnapshot.de/en/down.htm

RDrive Image Or copy live from one to the second drive.
Or you shoot an image, then deploy it on a new disk.
