How to choose the right Pantone color for a logo?

Made a logo for a client. I made the colors in CMYK. He did not previously say that the colors should be Pantone. And he said it only later. I used the online CMYK->Pantone converter to convert them. As a result, Pantone colors are slightly paler than CMYK colors. The customer is dissatisfied.
Did I do the right thing? And how is it right? Do you always need to make a logo directly in Pantone?

Tell the customer not to show off where he doesn't understand anything. Pantone and CMYK on the monitor will be different, when printed it will be different, on different types of paper in combination with types of inks and printing machines may be different. If you work remotely, then your comrades correctly say that he can choose and approve the exact color only with a fan and test print (of course, already without your participation) and you can set a more or less final color only for the web, and here it should also be taken into account that your monitors are also different :) You, for example, have a well-calibrated one, but you can generally view it on a laptop, phone, etc.

Both sides are to blame for the fact that such an important condition was not agreed in advance.
The customer is to blame for forgetting to say. The designer could think about it himself (because, generally speaking, this requirement is quite logical) and ask-clarify.
The online CMYK->Pantone converter is rubbish, they only give approximate values.

Hey my name is Rich I'm contacting you on behalf of Choice Cannbis.
I was wondering how I could go about getting the correct Pantones for the Choice CannabisLogo color selection. I am having trouble getting the correct colors from a few advertise companies and they are requesting them. If you could get back to me as soon as possible that would be great Thanks for your time and enjoy your day Richard Lee Hall
