How to check if your phone is available for incoming calls or not?

I began to notice how from time to time calls stop coming to my number, although usually there are conversations on ten lines at once at the same time. Using a multiphone trunk, I thought it would be good to keep track of whether my phone is available for calls or not. Is it possible to write a script that will, say, call my phone to check if I'm available?
