How to charge a dead player?

The point is this. I have an iriver E 300 player, which has been gathering dust on a shelf away from my eyes for about six months. Now, having found it, I decided that it would be nice to charge it and use it again. But the OS on the player is such that when you connect the charger, you need to choose between normal charging and charging while using the device. However, since the battery is now at zero, the player turns on for 2 seconds when charging is connected and immediately turns off. Just connecting the charging is also not an option - it just does not charge. It turns out that because of a dead battery, I simply cannot charge it. Is there any way to break the system?

In such cases, I opened the device and applied the voltage necessary for recharging directly to the battery, bypassing the controller (naturally, it is better to turn off the controller in this case). As a rule, a short-term exposure - on the order of a few minutes - was enough to restore a part of the emf, sufficient for the charging controller to "pick up" the charge and start charging the battery normally.
