How to change the type of link in url instead of id=value?

Good afternoon!

Guys, how can I make it so that instead of a link in the url it was not categories.php? id = 2, but categories.php / apple
To have a name. And so that the transition button in a href='' has a href='/categories/apple'

Usually it is written a href='categories?id=<take from the base id>' , but that's it so that instead it is a href=' /categories/apple'

Should this be stored in the database under the link cell - the name of the page and written like this? Or which is better?

You know, the maximum that comes to mind is a directory. Indexes are registered in each directory and that's it.
-- Yes, and not always in such constructions there is a sense (when processing data, etc., this is definitely not necessary (at least I don’t use it myself because it’s easier to cram one check function than to fence a kilometer of crutches))
