I have a paid app with several dozen active installs.
I want to make it free, but introduce a subscription system.
Can I gift a subscription to users who have already bought my app?
What is the right thing to do in this case?

You can't make a paid app free. Google doesn't allow it.
You can only upload a new one with a new package name.
