How to catch printer events?

Good day. Now the printer is canon mf3010. MFP. The operating system is on a computer Ubuntu 16.04.3. So the scanning and printing functions work fine with the original firewood. But there is one moment that does not give rest. As we all know, Ubuntu has the cups print server. And so it does not catch errors of the printer in any way. For example, if paper runs out while printing, cups does not write anything and the job is still considered successful. The question is, can it be fixed? Can cups catch this at all, not necessarily with this printer, because it's not a problem to buy a new one? Thanks in advance for your question

See if the printer has an SNMP interface. If there is, turn it on and monitor through it. Ask the manufacturer for OIDs.
