How to back up a system (Windows server 2012) located on a VDS?

Ultravds.com technical support does not provide snapshot services for their virtual machines, how can I take a snapshot of a server located in a virtual environment without the participation of a TP?
What are "Best practice" in this case?
What are the pitfalls?

What about stock backups? Disadvantages - backup takes place on a running machine, often using http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_copy , which means that the restored data will be in a 'non-consistent' / 'not up-to-date' state (critical for databases) and may require checking and repairing tables, up to data loss, i.e. to back up the database, you must use their own tools.
