How to automate the trading process?

Good day!
A relative opens an individual entrepreneur (retail trade in building materials), they asked me, as someone involved in IT, with the question: "How to automate?". Maybe someone saw some instructions, guides?
The first thing that comes to mind is "1C: Trade Management" (Retail?), but maybe there are some free or less expensive analogues, and if 1C, is it possible to deploy the system yourself without experience (courses? video tutorials?). Iron - a regular computer + barcode scanner, or maybe other options?
I would be grateful for any information!
PS Apparently, I did not put the question very well, namely, I did not specify what meaning was put into the word "automate". In fact, the automation of the actual trading process was meant. Keeping records of goods in the warehouse (arrival / departure / inventory), cashier work (barcode scanner, barcode stickers, etc.), loyalty program (bonuses, cards, discounts), various checks, invoices, etc. Probably something else..?
Accounting is not taken into account.

To automate something, one would need to know the problem to be solved. So ask: What exactly needs to be automated? Just at random, "You're smart" sounds like "You're a programmer, so you can fix the coffee maker."
Make a list of problem situations as accurately as possible and then start thinking about automation.

1C: Retail (basic) - you can independently deal with the installation and configuration

Business Pack

Free program, you can keep a list of goods, issue a variety of documents. For individual entrepreneurs, only this program is often enough.
Or, as Elba indicated above, but this is a web service with a paid subscription, but it makes a lot of sense, especially for individual entrepreneurs without an accountant.

What exactly needs to be automated?
Sole proprietorship is just a form of ownership of a legal entity. faces. But the nature of the business is different.
Depending on the characteristics of the business, automation can be different :)
In some cases, for example, it's just CRM.
