How to adjust the backlight adjustment of a netbook if the manufacturer does not optimize the drivers for new systems?

The samsung n102 netbook fell into my hands. Under Win7 everything was terribly slow. Rolled win8.1 onto it. It was a pleasure to work for him.
But here's the problem. There is no brightness adjustment.
Tried the drivers from the site. I tried those that windows 8.1 installs itself. Hotkeys work. The display shows a change in brightness, but in fact everything remains at the same level.
If I press the combination to turn off the backlight altogether, it works.
Googling, I haven't found anything I haven't tried yet. Perhaps I didn’t search well, of course ...
Tech support advises switching to windows 7.

Try drivers from different driver packs from other manufacturers. Perhaps the situation will change. If not, there are many guides on "lightening" windows 7 (as well as, by the way, ready-made, and of course, pirated distributions).
There is also an option to use some light linux, if working with heavy native win-applications is not critical. From myself I can advise elementary os.
