How to add the ability to put some icons in a compact order in a text field?

There is a text field describing the item, how can we add the ability to put large circles or other noticeable signs in the form of icons into the input in editing.
But not in the way that we chose in the emoticons window - a circle and a htmlcode <i ...></i>of 30 letters fell out in the text.
Can this be done in a more compact way?
And what about checking for text so that pure text is displayed to the user from the database, escaping the attempts of the script code?
