How to accurately read a broken CD-R in Ubuntu?
There is a beaten CD-R with photos. When loaded into the drive, sector 0 (at least) is not readable, so it is not mounted. Before you set PhotoRec on it, you need to remove the image. Question: What is the best way to do this?
We need something smart, smarter than dd. Ideally, it allows you to set the number of read attempts, which can reposition the head, check the checksums of sectors and choose the best option, etc.
Ubuntu 10.04.
