How much are specialists with knowledge of "C" in demand?
The Internet is full of PHP, Java, C# vacancies. Often looking for Python, Ruby, C++ programmers. But I don't remember the last time I saw a vacancy for Sishnik.
Is there life in this segment? Are the salaries comparable? I know that a bearded programmer with knowledge of C is worth its weight in gold, but what about the “Junior”, “Middle level” specialist?

There is work for a C coder, they pay well for it, but usually they are looking for already established specialists, it is more difficult for a beginner here than in other languages.
Just a different market. Less demand than PHP, but less supply. That is, where a script is needed, you will not have a million competitors who read “PHP for Dummies” over the weekend. I often work in programming for the Linux kernel, there is pure C, and although there are much fewer such projects than “write an online store”, there are also few specialists. But in addition to a pure language, you also need to know the scope of work, that is, in my case, for example, be able to program kernel modules. (also, in fact, not god knows what kind of rocket science, not as difficult as it sounds at first glance, but since few programmers bothered even writing a hello world module, this already gives a great advantage over competitors).
There is a lot of work for Si-shnik, it’s just that most likely, look at the vacancies in the wrong place. =) C will be relevant and in great demand for decades to come. Huge and very interesting niche. I can’t say anything about the “Junior”, depending on how you evaluate it, I consider myself a “Junior”.

-Welcome! nginx.com/announces/nginx-is-hiring.html
There are many jobs for C programmers. Basically, these are embedded devices, media set-top boxes, TVs and highly specialized software. Companies in which this is brewed are usually quite large with long-term and highly paid projects, and, accordingly, good salaries. And, believe me, they also have a constant shortage of personnel.
Generally speaking, it is more difficult for a beginner C programmer to find a job than for a beginner in PHP, Java, C#, but this rule does not work everywhere and not always. So before making such a choice, it would be best to look at specific vacancies and offers in your area.
Modules for nginx are quite a relevant topic, pure C is used there. I suppose that among large projects there are many who want to do some kind of non-standard functionality. The launch of nginx.com indicates that the topic is popular.
Very needed! They are few and far between and worth their weight in gold. The guys from this company were willing to take on a Unix developer on almost any terms (:
