How many ws2812/ws2812b leds can be connected in a row to arduino?

I want to make a matrix of these ws2812b LEDs to control each LED.
I will feed from 12 volts through a voltage regulator that holds 5v.
How many LEDs can I connect together, if I don't take into account the current limit of the power supply? and use only arduino with LEDs.
Is it possible to easily pull 100, 200 or even 1000.
And how much less / more can you connect fellow WS2812 (Without B at the end)?
Are there any restrictions due to the use of Arduino?

What is the aim of the project? I assemble on WS2801 tapes, you can connect any number there, and the arduino has only two outputs occupied.
