How many monitors does a layout designer/front-ender need?

The question has actually been raised. I'm also trying to understand the iron. It happens that you need to open five psds of 50-200Mb each, a bunch of browsers, all sorts of version managers, a few dozens of open Notepad++ or Sublime2, you climb to look at the styles of an element in the inspector, and in your heart there is a desire to take the same foot in the monitor. Neighbor. You will still need your own.

We brag, we complain, we recommend!

Two FullHD for the eyes ...
If not enough, do not do a bunch of things at the same time. And then everywhere it turns out tyap-blunder.

A purely personal opinion based on my needs: at least two monitors.
One is for the code, the second is for the browser.
Even better - three:
1. code
2. browser
3. developer tools

used to be two, laptop + external monitor. After switching to tiling , the laptop is now always closed as unnecessary, only an external monitor. But no matter how much RAM you shove, it's not enough.

2 monitors with an IPS or *VA matrix from 23 "and an aspect ratio of 16:10, such as market.yandex.ua/model.xml?modelid=7349236&hid=91052
Third generation Intel i5 or better))
Gig 16RAM, it is now a cheap
SSD , at least gig 120 + HDD, well, or one SSD for 180gb or more should be enough
. Any external video card will do.

If you are not Julius Caesar, and you are not going to work simultaneously in three documents, simultaneously editing documents in Photoshop - two monitors for your eyes. All the same, attention is focused on only one of them.

Three is not enough for me. I recommend portrait mode.

There are no many monitors :) This is a workplace of a friend (8 monitors), though he has nothing to do with IT.

Two monitors, sometimes it’s not enough, say, you do routine work in several windows and listen to a movie in parallel, sometimes looking, a third would be useful in this regard)

Three 24-inch and as high resolution as possible - at least fullHD. More simply does not fit on the table for comfortable work. For a long time I worked with two monitors, but after installing the third one, I can no longer work normally with two. The fact is that with such work, the brain gradually gets used to it and you start looking around like a chameleon at the same time, for example, comparing two pictures or two texts + changing one of them on the third monitor is very convenient!

At work, while doing NLE, I used two monitors 21 'for a long time. Then came 27'. But they are no longer so comfortable due to the fact that you had to rotate your head. Now there is only one 27'. I have enough.
If we talk about the number of monitors> 2, then I would reduce the diagonal of additional monitors depending on the number. Those. if the main 27 then the rest 2 to 21 'maximum.
PS it's like with a car. Someone big and black, someone small and red, someone two different, someone a bicycle. It all depends not on the needs but on their own comfort. So I don't see a clear answer.
PPS And for hardware, for what you described, 12 gigs of RAM is quite suitable, and not lower than 2.8 Mhz for comfortable work. And again, comfort is a concept for everyone.

In the office, I use 2 FullHD monitors and 4 desktops. At home I want to try one 2.5k monitor, on which windows will occupy half the screen (and the same several desktops). Still, 2 monitors take up a lot of space. Recently I had to temporarily work on someone else's computer with 1 monitor and Windows (1 desktop). I felt very sorry for the owner.

I don’t understand where the phrase “there are no many monitors” comes from? I can say "there are many monitors".
I myself use 2 monitors for programming, 1 desktop on each. Enough.

It should be borne in mind that additional monitors should give the same picture, ideally you need to take one model.
Otherwise, we will get a layout in Photoshop on one and its layout on the second in different colors. Almost no one deals with color calibration
