How many iPhones can be brought from abroad without problems with customs and duties?
Several acquaintances asked me to buy iPhone 4s for them upon their return from the United Arab Emirates. In total, 8 pieces came out :-)
Since there is no such experience yet, questions arose:
- how many iPhones (each about $ 730) can be brought from abroad without problems with customs?
- How much will the fee be?
— how to save on customs clearance?
There is information on the net, but it is not exhaustive and contradictory.
Thanks in advance.

If you believe the article , then you can safely import up to a total value of 10,000 euros and 50 kg if you fly by plane.
“Customs officers are guided by the general rule that goods for personal use are not subject to customs duties, if their total weight does not exceed 50 kg, and the value is 10,000 euros if you arrive from abroad by plane and 1,500 euros if you use another mode of transport (car, train, bus, etc.).”
for 8 you will definitely be accepted. And most likely you will overpay as for a commercial party.
It will be possible to carry 3-4 pieces maximum. I advise you to print it, if you know.
I think, while you are on a train (airplane), you can negotiate with fellow travelers for an amount less than a fee, divide a batch of devices, such as each one is carrying 5 pieces (for oneself, wife, children, mother-in-law and father-in-law ..)
1-2 pieces without duty will come out. Duty is imposed on that part of the goods that does not fall into 1000 euros.
The rate seems to be 5%. To cancel the duty on high-tech goods, it seems, is only going to be done, it has not happened yet.
Since such a dance, I’ll also ask, but if you unpack them, maybe even take them without boxes, will this somehow help in terms of communicating with customs officers?
You will be allowed to take out no more than 1 phone per person from the UAE.
