How many android devices does a developer need?
Good time of the day.
I want to try development for android and I want to buy a normal android smartphone. There is a simple phone on Froyo 2.2 with a small screen. I'm a beginner in programming, C at an intermediate level. I tried a couple of lessons, it became interesting. From the beginning it will be like a hobby, but over time, of course, I hope there will be some kind of portfolio with which you can try to get a job.
I read almost everything on the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT tag, but there were questions and doubts :)
Which smartphone is better to take as a phone for daily use and for development, NEXUS 5 or LG 3, as I understand it, NEXUS is good because it will always have a new version of android on which you can drive the application, but on the other hand, the remaining segment of android smartphones is not so fast receives or may not receive a new version of the android at all, so it makes little sense to focus on the new version. How to be? Or does it not matter? If something can be tested in emulators? Especially with my task as a hobby and then a portfolio suitable for finding a job.
I would like to hear the answers of those who independently develop for android.

The very first - no old devices. There is no point in keeping a version below 4 droids. Further. At least one tablet and at least 1 phone. For example, 10 inches and 4.5 inches - to test the usability of the interface. This is enough to get you started. To check the launchability, there are free services on the Internet that will check the launch for you on a couple of dozen top devices. Further. About the emulator - forget it right away. When the development "goes" - buy another 1-2 Chinese - it's cheap, but you can safely get root and mock as you want. If you aim at the top applications, you should always keep a pack of top devices.
0 devices needed by the developer! The Android SDK has a mobile device emulator, you can choose different screen sizes, OS version, and other options. And if you want to hold something in your hands, then of course you need to take it from the Nexus series.
