How long does the browser wait before 504 Gateway Time-out?

Can't figure out how long the browser waits for a response before throwing a Gateway Time-out error? I am running a long operation and most likely I will have to hang sockets, as I understand it, but still I wonder how long the default waits? The server itself works ok, just the operation is long.

Status 504, like all other errors of the 5xx series , is sent by the server, the browser has nothing to do with it.
