Please let me know if this is the situation. I need to rent VDS, but I don’t know how they are administered, it’s just impossible to hire a person for this yet. I want to try to figure it out myself.

Install VMware, Virtualbox, or another hypervisor on your computer. Make it a virtual machine with the OS you want to test and play. Putty, WinSCP and Google will help you with this.
