Barcodes

How is the selection and generation of barcodes?

The next task lies ahead.
There is a company that transports inventory from one point to another. Between points, the goods arrive at the warehouse and must be marked with barcodes. The first time when a barcode is glued, it is scanned through a mobile phone, a request is made to the server where inventory is searched for this barcode. Inventory not found, a window pops up with the binding of a new inventory for this barcode. The number of things can be huge, that is, I mean more than 10k
. It takes place in the USA. I read a little this site gs1us.org but I do not quite understand. They mainly use UPC codes, as I understand it, and depending on the company prefix, for example, if it takes 6 characters, then 100k products can be encoded there (which may not be enough for several years).
But who will maintain the uniqueness of the codes and print the whole thing? That is, I need to get 10k barcodes, in which some unique code is encoded. I understand that I will not write software that makes codes from 1 to 999999 and prints them
. In general, the questions are:
1. Do I need to register with this organization in my case?
2. Who will encrypt the unique sequences?
3. Who prints them, some intermediary? It is passed codes somehow or what
Thanks in advance if anyone answers

Registration with EAN/UPC is required if you are going to label your manufactured goods. In this case, within the manufacturer, a unique code is assigned to each product article.
If you need to use barcodes exclusively within the company, then you can use any. The simplest thing is to print in the form of a barcode on a self-adhesive, the number of the accompanying document (for example, a bill of lading) and the number of the cargo item in the waybill when forming the cargo. Then, when scanning the cargo, you automatically bind to the document the route point where the cargo ended up.
