How is the Facebook feed implemented?

When viewing the feed on Facebook and moving to a separate post, if you click back, it goes to the post ("screen") from which the transition was made. Also in VK and other sites. Is this a layout feature? Because on some sites (and in VK ajax) the entire page is reloaded and you have to scroll to the place
