How is the development of templates on Twitter Bootstrap?
That's not quite understood. The documentation is very simple. I can’t understand one thing ... Using this framework, you need to use only those classes that are provided for them? Is it possible to add custom styles or should everything be within the standard described classes and functions?

What does "is it possible" mean? Are you violating the license by doing so?
Of course, you can and should add your own classes. Bootstrap only allows you to quickly get started and focus on unique things and not waste time on grid and common js plugins.
Even the bootstrap site itself has many self-written classes. Another thing is that you should not put your own plugins on bootstrap that repeat bootstrap's plugins or not put bootstrap's ones, since their constructor allows you to do this.
