In terms of promotion, nesting should be minimal. If you can avoid it, avoid it.

The first one allows you to learn analytics by sections like site.com/pages/* and the second one only by pages. The second one is shorter, but instead of pages, you can also insert some keyword.
There isn't much difference other than the length.
