How is character model customization implemented in modern games?

Hello.
I have long been interested in one question - how is the ability to fine-tune the character model in modern RPG games achieved? Take Skyrim for example - the game allows you to quite accurately customize the character's face by changing the shape of the nose, face, eyes based on a single head model. Moreover, as a result, the sweep is preserved and there are no visible artifacts. In other games, it is even possible to customize the shape of the body (increase or decrease the arms, change the width of the body), and again, the scan does not suffer. My experience is that in situations like this there should be very noticeable texture rendering artifacts, like visible model seams. How do facegens and similar programs get around a similar problem?
I would really appreciate a detailed answer.

I vote for morphing between several pre-made models. UV coordinates should be the same for everyone.

Well, apparently, in addition to moving the vertices, the uv coordinates of the texture also move, within certain limits. Naturally, if artifacts are abused, and in small ranges this will not be noticeable. There is a mod for the same skyrim, which changes the boundary conditions of the sliders, there are terrible gnomes, with terrible artifacts.

It seems to me that fine-tuned skeletal animation is being used. Something like that, you can look here:
