How important is the domain zone region for an international site?

A few years ago I registered a good financial domain in Latvia for a local project. The project did not work, the domain simply remained on the balance "just in case".
Now we are launching another project, and the domain would fit very nicely into this topic. But the project is international, it is not aimed at any country. Buying such a domain even with modifications in international zones is unrealistic.
How critical is it that the domain zone is made for a specific country?

Google does not have such a refined regional geo-dependence of the site as Yandex does. And with proper optimization , the domain zone will not affect the ranking of the resource in any way .
It all comes down to the trust of users: for example, if I am looking for the product I need in Ukraine, and the IM is in the .ru zone, I will at least be alert, check, double-check and I’m not sure that I will stop at this IM if there are alternatives in .ua
Although for info sites are not important at all.
