Virtualization

How effective is virtualization for games?

The question may be stubborn, but I'll ask it.
Is it possible to fully run heavy games in the hypervisor?
I know that there is such an opportunity, but I would like to hear the opinion of people who actually use the guest system scheme with the forwarding of a second video card for games. As they say, no matter what the child amuses, if only he does not cry. I love a quiet life under my PC on a Debian lamp, I serve PCs in one organization, and I go crazy with Windows 10 glitches, with its updates. I also like to play WoW, I've been sick of it since 2006, but the constant discomfort from rebooting to switch to Windows is also annoying, and somehow it's not serious. The second PC is also somehow not so hot and expensive, but to blind Frankenstein with a host on Linux and a guest on Windows, with forwarding a video card and a solid state drive for games, that's yeaaah!
To do this, a new case will be purchased, with the ability to install two vidyuhi, buy a second vidyukha, power supply, ssd. Until I uncovered my hard-earned money for this lesson, I decided to ask the opinion of experienced people.
I found a lot of articles on the Internet, but somehow no one really delved into the result, that is, I did not find any real performance comparison tests or objective reviews and the work of games on virtual machines.
The goal is not only the result but also the interest in the process of creating Frankenstein. Please do not throw unflattering words in my direction, do not say that I violate some geek commandments and will burn in hell. If you have not been involved in such perversions, pass by.

If the hardware is powerful, then the performance drop is small. I'm currently working on a VM on a host machine. Enough for games and work in heavy applications, but this is a top-end socket configuration. Actually, I described my experience in setting up proxmox with video card forwarding here:
https://m.habr.com/ru/post/437598/
A few notes:
1. Virtual hard write is several times slower than the real one. Part of the resources will have to be left to the host, which means that this part of the VM will be slower than a native PC without virtualization.
2. For successful forwarding, it is necessary that the hardware supports iommu and the full set of appropriate virtualization technologies from AMD / Intel and a test must be performed on them (the article contains a description of how to do the test)
In other words, not every motherboard and processor is suitable for this business.
3. Settings, the VK driver needs to slip any left id of the equipment, instead of the screw one, otherwise you will get error 43 on gaming video cards and nothing will work.
4. Work is carried out on a separate monitor or on the same, but on different video inputs, i.e. you will need to switch
5. I have not tested the 6th proxmox yet, but in older versions, when you forward a device from a group to a VM, the rest fall off for the host. In my case, the integrated sound card and lan are in the same device group, and when the sound is forwarded, the network drops. We cured the physical forwarding of the usb controller with the purchase of an external sound card. On normal forwarding, the microphone worked disgustingly as a device and there were pickups

Put it on and see. In general, for demanding games, this is only harm.

No.
Well, that is, it will be a long and tiring fuck, which will probably end in nothing, because the wrong iron. As far as I know, Denis _______________ made such a system work on some combination of hardware and in proxmox.

It worked great for me. Look in my answers
And you do not need a 2nd full-fledged video card - just a built-in and a "game" card, which you will forward
