How does the Tor browser process ajax requests?

Hello! Let's say the site has a button "add to bookmarks" that sends a request via ajax, but if js is disabled in the torus, then the function works, but with a page reload, which is understandable. It's not clear to me how this happens because there are no forms, this "bookmark" button is a regular link with data data, href is empty. Perhaps the question is not correct and the point is not at all in the torus (although it seems to me that this part is taken over by the browser)

It's not about the torus. If href is empty, it means it leads to the current page. You click on the link - the page reloads and that's it. None of the functions work.
