How does the browser make the request?

Hey!
As a rule, layout designers instead of a whole background-image in the background-image property put a small template for quick loading.
I can't understand the logic of the HTTP request: if the image on the background is one whole, then it is clear that the browser makes one request. And when hundreds of little pieces fill the background,
then what happens? Is the browser making hundreds of HTTP requests to download little bits of background?
Explain to the fool please

How many resources - so many requests. It doesn’t matter if it’s a picture or a style, a script .....
If you meant the repetition of one picture vertically / horizontally, then they usually pull out the repeating part of the picture, the smallest one possible, so that it takes up less space, and then they already indicate in which direction to repeat one picture, then one picture is loaded and the browser itself repeats this picture vertically / horizontally
