How does termux work?

Hello. I installed termux on my phone . — Linux Environment.
It allows, in turn, to install all sorts of vims, ssh servers, and generally anything.
Surprisingly, I did not know about such things before - I thought it was impossible to do anything without root and firmware. It turned out that's how it is.
I did not find a description of how it works on the site. Has anyone come across him? What is the operating principle behind it?

Without root, it unfortunately does not have full functionality. But it’s still quite interesting, updates are frequent, and I wrote in the comments directly to Google Play what programs I want, the developers answered right away what they could add and what not, but offered a replacement.
