How does an application connected to firebase work under the hood?

Wrote several small client applications working through the firebase api in javascript. it is interesting to understand how the firebase service itself works inside and what protocols the client uses to communicate with the firebase server. I looked on the official site, but there about these moments I did not find anything. can someone tell me where to find more detailed information about the technology stack that is used in working with firebase?
