How does a search engine look at copy-paste with a link to the source?

How does a search engine look at copy-paste with a link to the source?
It's one thing if you take a text from some site and copy it to your page, on the other hand, if you take this text and indicate its source, in the sense of "As the publication writes such and such (link) that and that", that is, on the one hand the text is copied and perhaps a little rewritten, but it is immediately indicated that the text is not mine, but it is taken from such and such a resource, how will the search engines look at it?
Why am I asking this question here, the fact is that in the search engine on this issue I found articles where they write that this practice does not harm the site and it will be displayed in the search, I would like to hear an opinion on this resource...
Right there on this issue - how search engines look at images in which, for example, a logo is added, because already, as it were, a different image is obtained ...

After the "success" of the site qaru and others like it, everything about seo has turned into fortune-telling on coffee grounds.

Copy-paste = unequivocal harm to the site hosting it. Not immediately, but a little later. It can only work in Google if such an article is commented a lot (the original content is diluted) and / or reposted with a link to your copying site. Another condition for the life of such a site is a lot of sources and very quickly updated content. In fact, traffic due to a fast robot is possible, but in the long term - nothing good.
