How do you track your progress and build a learning plan?

Hello. Describe how you track your progress in learning, such as learning a new language or skill. Find a mentor or do it yourself. Do you have any guidelines for the day? I would appreciate your experience.

I will share with you the insidious strategy of my SELF-development:
- I am doing an analysis of what to pump. What skill, language, technology is not enough to conquer the horizons
- I learn as much as possible what and how best to learn and implement,
- I develop a CURRICULUM and PRACTICAL PLAN of self-study, including which books to read, services to use and a practical idea to implement,
- I approximately estimate the implementation time,
- I drop it into the Trello project manager so that I can not go the distance, do not score, do not deviate from the course and proceed ....
But the first thing you need for this is self-organization, high "motivation to work for free" and a great desire! In a word, if you are ready to do it for free, and what you do at work is your hobby - consider that you have not worked a day and you are truly a happy person!

I develop in the chosen direction (chats) and reject everything that is not included in my specialization (including orders if they do not correspond to my direction). And I expand my horizons only to study related technologies. Such as video chats, push notifications, development of html5 applications. That is, what in general is often ordered freelance along with the development of a chat.
It takes me about 30% of the time I spend on freelancing to learn new things. As a result, my development is included in the cost of development and paid by customers.
