In the center of the monitoring is a cactus .
There are almost any plugins for it, as well as for munin.
Even if something is not there, it can be easily written in any language.
Regarding Apache as applied to a cactus, there is Apache-stats, an approximate result can be viewed on the cactus
forum .
It makes sense to deploy a cactus if a total monitoring system is planned that will collect statistics on all parameters of different servers. A sort of lightweight version of the chaff.
If it is necessary to monitor only the Apache, the munin will be enough.

if this is a tomcat web server, then it’s better not to find javamelody , which can: traffic monitoring, memory monitoring, threads, cpu, queries (and even sql queries), logs. What's nice, it's open source!

I am using Zabbix. Not only WEB servers are monitored (Frontend on Nginx and several backends with Apache), but also databases (PostgreSQL).
Set up SMS notifications for critical situations. Almost everything is monitored, incl. for WEB servers - the number of running / resting processes, the number of active / waiting connections, the load on memory, processor, etc. Graphs are built according to the main parameters, and displayed on the so-called. "Summary screens" by which you can immediately assess the situation in the system.

If apache, then in the process of debugging, you can monitor individual scripts / sites using the mod_status and mod_performance modules. The first is standard, the second can be found at the link lexvit.dn.ua/articles/?art_id=apache_underwatching3_mht201107167311
Load average, memory with standard utilities top, free

If there is only one server, then munin is a good option, installed and received monitoring out of the box.
If there are a bunch of servers and centralized monitoring is needed, then my choice is zabbix. The best of opensource, in my opinion, and many proprietary solutions will outdo it.

Dude - I use it for a large network and everything is very conveniently modified. Plus it's free. In addition, there is technical support and a forum.
